2021-12-21 CC Agenda - Public Communications related to Item #7 - Raytheon #22021-12-21 AGENDA PACKET PUBLIC COMMUNICATION RELATED TO ITEM #7 - RAYTHEON Harada, Patricia From: Weaver, Tracy (City Clerk) Sent: Tuesday, December 21, 2021 8:36 PM To: *ALL CITY CLERKS Subject: Fwd: Raytheon Development Agreement Council received email below. —Tracy Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: From: Paul Lanyi <paul@bluepen.com> Date: December 21, 2021 at 11:46:11 PM GMT+1 To: ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS <ALLELECTEDOFFICIALS@elsegundo.org> Subject: Raytheon Development Agreement Good evening Council, I was a bit shocked to read that the Council overturned the unanimous decision of the Planning Commission. Respectfully, I request that you reexamine the Raytheon Development agreement. It should include either a location for the 7.54 acre park or a comparable public benefit triggered by the new storage building being built. Please do reconsider. Thank you, Paul Paul Lanyi 310.686.0077 1 Harada, Patricia From: Weaver, Tracy (City Clerk) Sent: Wednesday, December 22, 2021 9:33 PM To: *ALL CITY CLERKS Subject: Fwd: Raytheon Park Space Council received email below. —Tracy Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: From: Melissa McCaverty <melissamccaverty@yahoo.com> Date: December 21, 2021 at 12:16:05 PM PST To: ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS <ALLELECTEDOFFICIALS@elsegundo.org> Cc: Jonathan Mccaverty <jmccaverty@hotmail.com> Subject: Raytheon Park Space Dear City Council Members, We are writing to you to express our concern regarding the Raytheon amendment that is scheduled to be on the agenda tonight for a second reading. While, we may not understand every single nuance of the agreement, we do believe that giving up the city's right to 7.5 acres of park space is unacceptable. Based on the growth of our city and the needs of children to have park space, the amount of parks being offered in the current amendment to the agreement is insufficient. The current fields over at Raytheon are not in good shape & are baseball/softball fields only. Is this as good as 7.5 acres? Not even close. 7.5 acres could hold a baseball field, a football field and a soccer field. The field space that is being offered by Raytheon does not accommodate even a little league schedule nor did it include playing actual games on the fields - it is just being offered for limited uses such as practices. And our understanding is that the field use is restricted by a gated entrance and can only be used when Raytheon employees are not using it (minus the two days a week currently offered from 3-5 - a completely inconvenient time for people who work traditional 9-5 jobs) and apparent Saturday/Sunday weekend practice use. This just isn't the same as 7.5 acres!!! While it's nice Raytheon is offering any park space, the City giving this provision up now seems short sighted. If the City does not get Raytheon to commit to building a park now, it will in all probability never happen. Raytheon was not looking to sell this land in the first place, so the odds of ever selling more land -knowing the park issue is looming seems to be slim to none. I am a huge football can, but I am a bigger fan of families in town & park space for them. An even broader concern is why the city bothers to enter into agreements at all if the city will later just accept amendments relinquishing their rights under the original agreement - in what appears to be to detriment of the residents in favor of businesses. Also, the planning commission, which is comprised of members appointed by city council seems to be unanimously advising the city to accept the amendment with the caveat that they nail Raytheon down to a timeline for the 7.5 acres of park space for the residents to use as per the original agreement. We appreciate you taking the time to read our emails and consider our concerns. In our opinion it would be more advantageous for the city to own and control 7.5 acres of parkland than having part time use of approximately 2 acres of fields owned and maintained by a large corporation.
