We moved to ES in 2015 because of the close knit and kind community, the good schools and opportunities for our kids. In recent years it feels as though the city's priority is looking after business development. It is important that Raytheon be held to the 7 acre park they agreed to. Your decision at the upcoming council meeting directly impacts the lives of residents. Please ensure that we all have ample green space, healthy trees and access to public parks - this is a key ingredient to a healthy community for years to come. First, this would go against what I thought our City Council members stood for, which is protecting the community and its citizens. Second, it goes against the vote of the Planning Commission, who sole duty is to properly advise you on these types of matters. Finally, why would you vote this way? Our community clearly needs the park space and as represented by Rec Park, Campus El Segundo, the Aquatics Center, and our other parks, our community will put park space to its best use. Please do the right thing for the el Segundo Community and require Raytheon to meets it commitment to provide for the City Park land now. On Facebook, the idea of a community garden was presented on El Segundo Parents Network (ESPN) and got 30 positive comments and 37 likes. The same idea was presented on El Segundo Community Network (ESCN) and got 22 positive comments, 27 likes, and seven hearts. It is apparent that our community wants more community spaces, and a community garden provides healthy food and provides a community space for gatherings. Attached is my detailed proposal, which entails planning, funding, maintenance, and collaboration among the EN committee, DEI community, and the Arts and Culture Committee. I appreciate your consideration.
