Residents are strongly encouraged to participate remotely in the virtual Library Board of Trustees Meeting via
Zoom (Meeting ID 972 0051 0942 1 Passcode 609882). Members of the Public may provide comments
electronically by sending them to Executive Assistant Jessie LeMay (jlemay@elsegundo.org/310-524-2770),
with a limit of 150 words and accepted up until 30 minutes prior to the meeting. The emails will be read to the
Library Board of Trustees during public communications and are subject to disclosure under the Public
Records Act.
Additional Information
The Library Board of Trustees, with certain statutory exceptions, can only take action upon properly posted
and listed agenda items. Unless otherwise noted in the Agenda, the public can only comment on City -related
business that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Library Board of Trustees, and items listed on the
Agenda during the Public Communications portion of the meeting. The time limit for comments is five
minutes per person, maximum 30 minutes.

1. Eagle Scout Project
Jack Crawford presents the website he developed with Senior Librarian
Julie Todd highlighting the John Van Hamersveld DWP Water Tank Mural as well as his
conceptual design for a viewing station and signage planned for Grand Avenue.
2. Center Street School and El Segundo High School Modernization Projects
Senior Librarian Kristina Kora-Beckman and District Librarian Joanne Gen share preliminary
plans for upcoming renovations of the Center Street and El Segundo High School libraries.

1. COVID-19 Update and El Segundo Public Library Reopening Plan
Senior Librarian Mark Herbert and Community Services Director Melissa McCollum provide
updates about COVID-19 transmission in LA County, related Public Health safety orders
and guidance, and the El Segundo Public Library's phased reopening plan.

Book to Action Details
Read The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative by Florence
Williams during this year's Book to Action Program. Free copies are available via Library to Go as
supplies last.
Additional opportunities include:
April 17: Socially Distanced Litter Clean-up (10 AM-12 PM)
Virtual Trash to Treasure Art Making Workshop for Kids and Families led by Grades
of Green (1:30-3 PM)
Virtual Happy Hour Art Workshop led by ESMoA. Bring your litter, recyclables, and
Happy Hour refreshments (4-5:30 PM)
April 22: Virtual Conversation with Josh Tickell, environmental thought leader and award
winning director and author of Kiss the Ground (6 PM)
April 28: Virtual Book Discussion led by Florence Williams (6:30 PM)
The California Center for the Book scheduled two additional virtual discussions for Book to Action
participants. Registration details will be available soon (space limited).
April 21: Virtual Conversation with Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to be an Antiracist

April 26: Virtual Conversation with Lori Gottlieb, author of Maybe You Should Talk to

Children's Library Reorganization
Staff continues to update and organize the children's book collection, including merging
and shifting youth fiction to make it easier for community members to locate books. Storage
and workroom areas have been cleaned and organized during the building's closure. Other

preparations, including updating and relocating public computers, continue in anticipation of
moving to the next phase of reopening when LA County enters the Red Tier under the
State's Blueprint for a Safer Economy — https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/
Library Manager and Cultural Arts Coordinator Recruitments
Library Manager interviews are scheduled for March 11, 2021. Over sixty applications have been
received for the new Cultural Arts Coordinator position. Interviews are currently scheduled for
March 15, 2021.
Library Park Activation Project
Engineering, hardscape, and landscape design continue for the Learning Garden and Storybook
Loop. Plans should be available for input from stakeholders and the Development Services
Department soon (March/April 2021).
FY 2021-2022 Budget
Preliminary budget discussions are underway due to the upcoming shift in the City's Fiscal Year
(from October -September to July -June). A Budget Study Session with the City Council is currently
scheduled for April 20, 2021 from 2-4 PM.
