Subject: Services for El Segundo seniors
Dear officials,
There is a terrible lack of communication and face-to-face contact between the elected officials and El Segundo senior
citizens.
I would like to challenge you to have an in -person meeting at Park Vista or the Joslyn Center with one or more of the
council members, one of whom should be Carol Pirztek, so that you can hear in person the concerns of the seniors who
have been negatively impacted by activities and Dial -A -Ride services that have been withheld for the last 18 months. We
will want to know why it is that other cities have continued or resumed senior services, but the same cannot be said for
El Segundo
Since you work for your constituents, then it is reasonable and important for you to answer these questions.
Thank you
Shelley Tucker

Mona had an extensive conversation today with Ms. Tucker. Unfortunately, we did not receive her email and
really aren't sure why? The email address is correct. She is correct, we received 2 other emails from other
residents and those were forwarded to all of you. If you have further questions, please give Mona a call.

Dear Mayor Boyles & members of the council:
I am forwarding an email that I sent to the city clerk prior to the Aug 17th council meeting with the request that it be
read during the public communication portion of the meeting. Unfortunately that did not happen. I was told by the
clerk's office that my email had not been received even though others in my building who emailed to that same address
had theirs received. I would appreciate your reading this and strongly urge you to take action to resolve the issues that
we seniors have put before you.
Thank you,
Shelley Tucker

I hope I have not bombarded you with too many of my forwarded comments requesting they be read at
the council meeting. I didn't get the usual audio when I send an email and didn't know if it went through
for sure. At any rate I promise you this is the last attempt. Thanks in advance for reading them on Aug.
17th.

Dear City Clerk:
Please read my comments at the next City Council meeting taking place August 17,
2021.
1 am asking the council restore as soon as possible senior classes, social activities and
the Dial -A -Ride. We seniors miss the opportunities to get together and take care of our
physical health and mental health which services at the Joslyn helped to provide. Many
seniors living in El Segundo do not own cars. The Dial -A -Ride provided them the
opportunity and feeling of independence and freedom to do their own grocery
shopping, attend the weekly Farmers Market as well as take fun recreational trips.
Many seniors tend to isolate far beyond what is conducive to maintaining their mental
health. That was heightened during an 18 month closure due to the Covid shutdown.
It is time to think about the senior population residing in El Segundo. Many of us feel
that our needs have been ignored and that there is not currently a senior member on
the council who can advocate for us.
In addition the lobby at Park Vista has furniture that has been turned upside down and
dirty carpets throughout the 18 months of the shutdown. This is embarrassing when the
families and friends of the residents come to visit.
Please help us return to a normal state and fully open the Joslyn and restore the Dial -A -
Ride vans as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Shelley Tucker

To all: I absolutely agree with what Shelley Tucker has written. We are a lost community here at Park
Vista. It's a total shame that everyone has forgotten about us. We've been dying on the vine for the past two years. Not
one person from the City, Cadman, Housing Board has stepped foot into here and tried to help us out and let us know
what's going on except for infrequent emails.
The carpets are filthy, especially when you walk into the front door - how disgusting and how it makes Park Vista look like
to the outside people coming here. The furniture on the first floor is just in a pile with red tape around the furniture saying
"do not enter" - what are we - prisoners? I guess so.
You've raised the rents on us over the past two years with the people struggling to survive during the pandemic. You all
should be ashamed of yourselves!!!!! And now the new rents are more than the 50% allowed to new tenants moving into
here.
We have no sense of good living here - it's terrible. No card games, bingo, happy hour, parties, etc. It literally is like living
in hell.
There is no Dial -A -Ride either. So many people here depend on their services and have been struggling just to survive,
etc. Sure, Parks & Rec are reopening 3 days a week - what good does that do when people don't have a ride to get over
there.
It's time for someone to take care of us, etc.!!!!!
Another unhappy tenant!

Subject: The lack of Dial -a -Ride in El Segundo

Re: Dial -a -Ride
Hello to all:
I'm writing to you about the concern I have regarding our City's Dial -a -Ride program. The lack of this
service at this time is a burden for me and many others who live at Park Vista, and other senior
citizens in our city. I understand the necessity of having put the service on hold during the Covid 19
Pandemic and I also know that the pandemic is not completely over.
However, there are many businesses open and operating with the proviso that customers wear
masks and practice social distancing. Re Dial -a -Ride, it seems to me that the service could (and
should) be reinstated with some rules in place. Some suggestions for the regulations might be: 1)
That the driver and passengers would wear masks; 2) That there be a limit to the number of
passengers on any one vehicle —perhaps four —and appropriately distanced from one another; 3)
Windows on the van remain fully or partially open; 4) And one other possibility that passengers
provide proof of vaccinations.
Thank you for your attention to this issue. It is vitally important to those of us who are unable to drive
or do not have a car.
Sincerely,
Teresa (Teri) Campbell
