Now the AQMD is fining Hyperion and ultimately we are the ones as consumers/rate payers that are paying for the fines. Is there no way to negotiate a better rate for sewer as penance for our horrible inconvenience and danger to our health ---going on a month plus. Heads need to roll and accountability is paramount. I also worry about residents that do not have access to credit, technology, internet and may be missing out on the opportunities offered by Hyperion to improve their environments and health via reimbursements for hotels, A/C and purifiers. Have these been addressed? I have the following and I think I'm close here, but I dont want to submit random forms to LA City without being sure I'm submitting the right forms and not wasting (ba dum tss) my time. LA City links: https://www.lacit.ysan.o[g/san/faces/`home https://clerk.lacity.org/clerk-services/cps/file-claim Specific claim under $5000 (1 believe this is the correct form...) htt s: clerk.lacit .or sites files w hl491 files 2021-02 tacit 025603. df Hyperion -specific links: htti)s:,Ywww.lacitysan.org/alerts Google docs hyperion application via LASAN htt ps: //fo rm s.gl e/EY15m d k6 FPvu U1 eX8 The last two links get you somewhere, but no links get you to that claim form I've shared above from LA city for reimbursement under $5000. 1 think there may be more information coming over the next few days, but the links Mayor Drew shared also suggest that the claim period ends 29 July 2021. Lots of mixed messaging and unclear movements here. Do you have better links or more concrete information? thanks, Taylor Harada, Patricia From: Weaver, Tracy (City Clerk) Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2021 11:32 AM To: *ALL CITY CLERKS Subject: FW: Written Public Comment for 8/17/21 Council received email below. I live on the east side of town, near El Segundo High School. My family, like so many, has been impacted by the Hyperion disaster. We have had to run our a/c almost 24/7 since the middle of July. We have pets and there are 4 of us, myself, my husband, and my two teenagers. My husband also works from home, due to his office being closed because of COVID, and both of our teens have been taking summer classes at ESHS and El Camino College. Oftentimes, you can find all 4 of us on zoom sessions in active conversations. With our pets, work and classes, it is impossible to relocate to a hotel for $181 a night, one that will house 2 adults, 2 older teens, and our pets comfortably and allow us to work and attend zoom classes in a quiet environment. I can't image a hotel room that would accommodate sleep, workspace, and pet space for $181 a night - we have not been able to find one. So, we run our a/c with a HEPA filter, in hopes that it is filtering out enough of the stink and whatever chemicals are being used to clean up this disaster. We usually run our a/c only when temps get up past 82 degrees outside. Our town is close to the beach and usually, we are able to enjoy the ocean air. We have not been able to leave our windows open above about 2-3 hours at a time before someone in the house yells the smell is coming and we close everything up so our house doesn't smell like poop and bleach or poop and that sickening sweet chemical smell that has been wafting in lately (the deodorizer Hyperion is using to mask the smell). At night, we have had to close all the windows and run the air conditioner to get a full night's sleep because the smell is at its worst from the hours of 12am - 6am it seems. We would not normally be running the a/c at night. Our electrical bills will be staggering at a time of year when California is asking folks to conserve energy. We are often running it when it is just 72 degrees outside just to get away from the smell and hope that the filter is removing as much of whatever toxins are in the air. We would not be using this much electricity if it wasn't due to the Hyperion disaster. Hyperion/LA Department of Sanitation is the direct cause of our increased electrical use. They should be covering increased electrical bills due to a/c and air filter use for all those downwind. We shouldn't have to pay astronomical electric bills due to this. Thank you for your time in reading this. This incident was the direct result of which; malfeasance of someone abusing the drain system, or did something build up somewhere and was released all together, or Wi there equipment failure in the plant? 2. Will there need to be additional equipment upgrades to mitigate future risk of a similar crisis and how is that anticipated to be funded? (I sent it on 7/27/21) I have also filed a complaint with LA county public health and the LA City Hyperion as we have what looks like mold growing on the eaves of the house in the back that faces the hyperion and haven't received a phone call or email in response. I do want to thank El Segundo City Officials for keeping us up to date, the the hyperion folks and health department are not as responsive. FYI, I have called several times and sent emails asking for a reply.... hmmmm. My name is Kelly Davies and my partner and I reside at 620 Whiting St, El Segundo, CA 90245. I'm writing to request an increase in the reimbursement amount for residents who elected option 1. With the extension, residents who selected option 2 are potentially receiving upwards of $7,000 from the city. This does not seem fair to residents that selected option 1 when A/C systems cost significantly more than $1,200. Please consider our request as we've dealt with this awful situation for quite some time and appreciate your help in mitigating this matter. My cell phone is 352-745-1458. Councilmember Gireaux, You said on social media that you were "embarrassed" to be an elected official in Los Angeles County. If so, why don't you resign? We elected you to do a job, not complain about it. And regarding Hyperion, Councilmember Gireaux, you said you didn't trust one government agency to investigate another government agency. What then do you suggest? Should we hire a Private company to investigate a government agency? Like how the Arizona state legislature is investigating ballots in the presidential election in Maricopa County? I am terrified when I hear these statements and suggestions from you. Where is your heart for service? You are elected. You ARE the government. By your own words and actions, I do not trust you to represent me or our community of El Segundo. As for the city council, how do you justify taking two months off over the summer? You are elected to work for us the residents. The rest of the Beach Cities city councils did not take two months off. Nor did the Los Angeles City Council. But apparently you don't think there's enough city business to do and you can choose not to hold public meetings so you can go on vacation with your families over the summer. Not every El Segundo family is so fortunate and has this luxury. Our community deserves better. We deserve leaders who take their elected positions seriously. With your actions and your words, it is increasingly clear that it is time for new leadership in El Segundo. Shame on you, Councilmember Gireaux. Stop complaining and do your job so we can have a better quality of life here in El Segundo. Otherwise, just resign! Kevin Turner 209 Sierra Street El Segundo, CA 90245
